I really did not think that any government would consider bringing back the overreaching and discriminatory Section 28 that was introduced during the Thatcher regime and that deeply scarred an entire generation of children - not just those who were LGBTQIA+ but also those who were not - being denied the right and ability to explore and understand themselves and each other in a safe and supportive educational environment. The negative effects of this time were wide-reaching and tragic with many children being ostracised or suffering with the feelings and desires that they were experiencing but not being able to explore or discuss these with those who should be there for them - too many did not survive that period or did but with serious mental health issues as a result. This was also a period that engendered bigotry and discrimination against LGBTQIA+ people as certain sections of the public felt empowered to do so.Now the government is planning to reintroduce a form of this bigotry back into schools based on a political ideology based on misinformation, innuendo and lies - I don't know about you but I want the laws of this country to be based on facts and supported by science not on a short-term political distraction. I also object strongly to a set of optional discriminatory guidelines being introduced as law by the back door.
