Who we are
The Beaumont Society is the longest-established transgender support group in the UK. Founded in 1966, it provides a support network for the trans community.
Our mission is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for transgender individuals, their families, and friends.
This website will contain news and information about the Beaumont Society and we will continue to provide support to the Trans community as we have for the past 60 years via our Helpline and online support.

Our History
Initially founded in 1966, the society started as a UK Chapter of the secret American organisation “Full Personality Expression” (FPE). From those early roots, the UK Chapter eventually became the Beaumont Society.
The name “Beaumont” is derived from the Chevalier d’Eon de Beaumont, an 18th Century French diplomat, spy and aristocrat. Leading a double life, presenting as both a man and a woman in the court and in senior diplomatic roles, d’Éon was respected internationally after playing a key role in peace negotiations that ended the Seven Years’ War.
Traditionally regarded as a secret group for cross-dressers, the society has significantly evolved since these humble beginnings. It’s now open to any members of the trans community who would like to connect with us, as well as partners and families of trans people.
